Basics of Supply Chain Risk & Resiliency: WHAT is it, WHY is it Important and HOW do I get started?
WHAT
Start off with a couple of terms and definitions. What is Supply Chain Risk & Resilience (SCR&R). Introduce a couple of basic risk terms. Differentiate between supply chain performance management and SCR&R. Share with the audience a couple of exemplar SCR&R companies, what they have at their disposal and how they identify, assess, mitigate and manage supply chain risks.
WHY
Provide some compelling reasons to act. First and foremost–Building a Resilient Enterprise. Then, Top-of-Mind CEO survey findings—what’s keeping CEO’s up at night. (Gartner, McKinsey, World Economic Forum, Conference Board) And finally, actual financial impact statistics from risk events around the globe.
HOW
Acquire as much knowledge as possible: Read books, take courses,etc
Figure out where your organization is today
Plan targeted interventions to build internal capacity and structure a path to SCR&R

Gregory Schlegel, Founder, The Supply Chain Risk Management Consortium.
He has been a Supply Chain Executive for several Fortune 100’s. He’s been a Supply Chain Executive Consultant for IBM, has taught supply chain risk at Lehigh University, has been an Adjunct Professor teaching Enterprise Risk Management for Villanova University’s EMBA program and VP/Principal at SherTrack LLC. Greg has presented papers on and has managed consulting engagements in supply chain and risk management. Greg was APICS’ 1997 International Society President. He is well published, a frequent speaker at conferences, seminars, webinars and dinner meetings. Greg and Dr. Robert J. Trent, of Lehigh University, have co-authored a new book, “Supply Chain Risk Management: An Emerging Discipline.”
