Critical Event Management (CEM)
A critical event is a disruptive incident which poses serious risk or threat to assets or people. An effective Critical Event Management program and strategy is an integrated, end-to-end process that enables organizations to significantly speed up responses to critical events and improve outcomes by mitigating or eliminating the impact of a threat. Imagine your business continuity, disaster recovery, active assailant, emergency response, natural disaster, IT incident risk management, and mass notification all rolled up into an easy-to-execute, strategic plan with long-term benefits.
The four components of CEM include:
INTELLIGENCE
Proactively assess potential threats before they become critical events. With the right built-in risk intelligence and data feeds, supported by 24/7 analysts, your organization can leverage thousands of sources of data across weather, protest, social media, dark web, and hyper-local safety feeds to curate, filter and categorize risk events. This ensures a faster response to threats in order to avoid false positives and make better decisions.
CORRELATION
Align risk events to assets using a dynamic correlation engine that combines static location, expected location and last known location of people and assets. CEM can take this a step further by considering time elements to determine who or what is impacted by threats, in order to reach them faster and more decisively.
ORCHESTRATION
Automated workflows ensure that even when you and your team are not watching for threats, the system is doing it for you. SOPs, communications, and action plans can be automated and orchestrated during a crisis in order to speed up response and ensure that the appropriate action is taken for a particular threat.
ANALYTICS
With CEM, metrics are built-in throughout the process to ensure the right action is taken by the right people, at the right time, and to understand how effective actions were and how you can do better in the future.
Modern Workforce Security
- Almost half of all workers will be mobile employees by the year 2022. Security officers, fixed cameras, and locked doors can’t protect these workers who are increasingly away from the office. Ensuring the safety of today’s workforce requires enhanced situational awareness and the ability to locate all employees – no matter where they are – along with failsafe methods to communicate with them. Out of sight doesn’t mean out of mind. Organizations must redefine duty of care and take steps to ensure safety for people who work alone. It’s important for employers to utilize location-aware technology to find and communicate with their workers anytime
Return to Work Safely with Risk Intelligence and Contact Tracing
- COVID-19 continues to cause unprecedented challenges for organizations everywhere, and will continue to change business operations for the foreseeable future. Everbridge empowers companies to understand the needs of their employees, carefully coordinate their return to the workspace, and reestablish pre-crisis levels of safety and operations with risk assessment and contact tracing, all through a single pane of glass.
- Understand your risk landscape with hyper-local data
- Keep your employees, visitors, and people safe and connected
- Leverage end-to-end contact tracing for the safest return to work
- Recover your operations with flexible workflows and centralized information
- Organizations rely on Everbridge for a safe return to work and fast recovery of operations as the COVID-19 crisis evolves.
Active Shooter Preparedness
- Active shooter incidents are unpredictable and evolve fast. Situational awareness and effective communication can help manage the chaos and prevent a potentially devastating event from escalating before law enforcement arrives
Traveling Employee Safety
- Whether an employee is working at their desk or visiting a client in a foreign country, organizations have a duty of care for their safety. Pre-trip briefings, real-time intelligence and reliable two-way communication can help keep traveling employees safe — helping them avoid unnecessary risks and warning them if they are approaching potentially dangerous situations.
Duty of Care
- Mark Terry, the Director of Global Enterprise Security for Rackspace, explains how Rackspace leverages Everbridge Safety Connection to ensure the safety and productivity of their employees around the world.
Lone Worker Safety
- Mobile phones are a lifeline for employees working in isolated situations with no colleagues or supervision. Location tracking, automatic check-ins and a dedicated S.O.S. panic button can minimize the hazards lone workers are exposed to on a regular basis.
Campus Safety
- Traditional security technology has not kept pace with the evolution of the four-walled office to multi-structure, open-space concepts. Unifying access control systems, wireless access points, scheduling systems and emergency communication systems helps identify who is on campus, where they are and enables location-based notification and alerting.
Direct Community Outreach
- 54% of U.S. households rely entirely on cellphones and don’t have landline telephones. communities are being built closer to flood- and wildfire-prone areas and the frequency and impact of severe-weather events are increasing across the U.S.
- Critical situations like severe weather and criminal activity require information to be shared quickly and effectively with residents. Alerting everyone in an emergency no matter what language they speak or if they choose to receive information via SMS Text, Facebook, on a smartphone or using a plain old telephone is difficult without a trusted solution you can rely on when minutes matter.
Keep the public safe and informed
- Keep residents informed with the right message, in the right language at the right time during critical events.
Increase Resident Opt-ins
- Use multiple opt-in methods to provide residents, visitors and community members with easy sign-up for emergency alerts using their zip code and/or custom keywords.
Automate Severe Weather Alerts
- Save precious minutes by automating the distribution of National Weather Service alerts augmented by AccuWeather and Weather Decision Technologies with precise location-specific severe weather details including lightning and hail.
Massive growth in digital service has both empowered businesses and exposed new vulnerabilities which expands the possibility of threats. A Digital Operations Platform enables agile service delivery models, providing resiliency for IT systems in an increasingly virtual world.
Organizations now consider great customer experiences imperative to their business and are pivoting towards streamlining and automating digital operations. As a result, your service uptime is crucial to delivering that experience.
Through event correlation, incident suppression, signal enrichment, context-rich categorization, and prioritization, organizations can monitor issues and react before an incident becomes a business problem. The Everbridge digital operations platform goes one step beyond signal enrichment by combining signals from multiple monitoring tools into a relevant context that provides resolvers with clear situational awareness. This enables customers to automate remedial actions based on previous incident resolution.
Automating digital operations allows teams to open fewer tickets and spend less time chasing reinventing the same resolution, leading to faster Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and more time for innovation.
Anticipate and Prevent Disruptions to Operations
Modern Supply Chain Continuity
When external risk threatens your operations or supply chain, the more time you have to anticipate the threat, the more options you have to make plans to mitigate or even avoid the disruption. While not all events can be averted, advanced planning can help you recover faster and return to normal.
For businesses, critical event management is no longer a nice to have. Having an integrated picture of external threats and events overlaid with an organization’s people, assets and supply routes, along with other contextual information to enable timely assessment and operational response is mandatory in today’s global economy.
Reduce Risk to Ensure Continuity of Ops
With Better Situational Awareness
“Visual Command Center empowers the GSOC to provide a credible voice from security to our overall business development plan. Our team and its overall understanding of our operational environment are essential to ensuring the continuity of operations, safety of employees and security of assets.”
— Bob Bernazal, Director of Security, National Oilwell Varco
Improve Efficiency and Visibility
- With Everbridge Visual Command Center, Microsoft’s Global Security Operations Centers integrates 60 unconnected systems and data sources into a single, interactive platform that gives instant access to critical information needed to evaluate risks and take action.
Optimize Supply Chain Management
- It’s impossible to eliminate risk from your supply chain, but organizations can take steps to minimize exposure to risk and even eliminate the impact of risk events with careful planning, tools, and processes to anticipate and manage risk more effectively.
Proactively Respond to Logistics Delays
- A top-ten global provider of transportation and logistics solutions had their supply chain operators manually checking multiple sites to determine whether border crossing wait times would cause delays for customer shipments. The provider has 50,000 customers over 30 countries and 1,500 locations of their own to manage. By moving to one platform for supply chain risk management, they were able to automate delay alerts and see them in real-time, under one pane of glass.
- Make Seconds Matter with a Platform You Can Trust
- No matter the situation –whether COVID-19, high-acuity cases like stroke or STEMI, or daily clinical care – Everbridge’s industry-leading CareConverge, increases efficiencies to speed diagnosis and treatment. The result: better patient outcomes, improved staff and patient satisfaction, and a HIPAA-compliant platform you can trust to deliver, secure, timely, patient-centered care
Improve Stroke Outcomes
- Every minute counts when dealing with high-acuity patients, but none more so than stroke patients. For these critical cases, many hospitals leverage remote specialists who often rely on images and texts to quickly consult and advise. As noted in a recent study with the Mayo Clinic, which measured the impact of clinical communications and teleconsulting, texts and images fall short in comparison to the real-time video call capabilities of CareConverge. The study concluded that CareConverge saved 7.45 minutes of time per patient. In the event of a stroke, this equates to millions of brain cells saved where the door-to-needle time was significantly reduced by confirming the patient’s state prior to their arrival. The Mayo Clinic saw a potential $4,600+ savings per patient in inpatient days and over $1 million dollars in equipment costs compared to traditional mobile stroke units.
Faster Team Activation
- Team-based responses to those patients most in need continues to expand in hospitals. From Stroke, STEMI, and Trauma to Sepsis and Rapid Response, quickly locate and activate the right care team members for these critical patient events. Everbridge is helping hospitals reduce team response times and improve patient outcomes.
Care Team Collaboration
- Improving clinical communication and collaboration among physicians, nurses and emergency response teams is critical to faster clinical response times and improved patient care and outcomes. Yet, it’s also one of the most challenging aspects of providing healthcare. The Joint Commission reports that 37% of all sentinel events are caused by a communication or assessment issue. Nowhere is this more critical than in a hospital Emergency Department. From curbside consults to nurse and physician follow-ups Everbridge is helping customers today to streamline and secure daily clinical communications.
Remote Patient Assessment
- Coordinating with remote specialists or directly monitoring remote patients is one of the ways hospitals can reduce costs and increase throughput. Everbridge is supporting hospitals across the US with programs ranging from remote assessment to hospital at home.
